A total of 116 species, 92 generas, and 36 families of plants inhibit the damp salt area of Suncheon Bay. On the inner banks of the Bay grow Phragmites Communis (Common Reed). On the side of the bank, Zoysia Sinica (Seashore Lawn Grass), Kummerowia Stipulacea (Korean Clover), and Rhyuchosia Volubilis (Volubilis Vines) can be found.
Within 2 meters of the outskirts of the bank, plant species such as Erigeron Bonariensis (Flax-Leave Fleabane) and Echinochloa Crus-Galli (Barnyard Grass) are found. These species are very hardy in the salty environment. Currently, Phragmites Communis (The Common Reed) is extending more and more to become the most dominant plant species of the Bay.
As it develops it forms ring-shape groups of reeds. Suaeda Asparagoides grows well in the drier ground of the lower part of the bank. Groups of Aster Tripolium (Sea Aster), Plantago Major (Common Plantain), and Vezomaritima grow well near waterways and standing water.
Phragmites Communis (Common Reed) and Suaeda Japonica groups are now dominant in areas previously used as farms and rice fields.
